Protective Skin, warm heart

UNIVERSITY SQUARE PUBLIC ART - GATHERING

Finding shelter in the uncomfortable

Gathering explores ideas of connection and community within a historic landscape context. The concept proposal for the installation at University Square, focussed on a metaphor of shelter, providing a place for gathering and a sculpture that draws inspiration from that which has been lost through urbanism. The protective shelter skin is made up of sharp timber dowels, while the central fire pit creates a hearth for people to meet and linger especially during the evening.
